Visual Narratives

Week 1 - Juxtaposition

What is Juxtaposition ?

Juxtaposition can be intentional or unintentional and it is when two or more people, things, or situations are placed side by side emphasising style, irony, humor or sadness. It allows us to compare the similarities and differences between elements as a result of their close proximity.

What makes a successful story ?

A successful story will have to include strong lead characters involving a strong lead main protagonist as well as a good antagonist. In addition the story needs to have strong character development addressing the characters goals and aspirations to make it interesting for the audience. A successful story should also include a simple beginning middle and end with a climax which should be the most important moment in a story to really engage the audience.

Introduction to stop motion

What is stop motion

Stop motion is known to be a type of film making technique which consist of a range of objects manipulated between a high use of photographic frames. This form of manipulation conveys movement and different forms of motion from the object creating stop motion animation.

The First stop motion animation

Both of these images above are from the first ever stop motion animation film and it was called the 'Humpty Dumpty Circus'. This film was created in 1898 and involved dolls with jointed moving limbs which was useful when conveying the movements of the dolls per shot for the animation.

Stop motion studio

This app is called 'Stop motion Studio' and this will be used when creating my final stop motion animation.

This is a very short animation of me testing out stop motion studio. It is a simple pen spin animation.

This is an example of the transparency mode in stop motion studio. This was useful as it allowed me to see images of frames I have taken before for the stopmotion.

This is the tool area in stop motion which allowed me to edit and arrange any of my shots.

From the tool area shown above i used the eraser tool which allowed me to get rid of any unwantwed areas in the image.

Assignment 2 stop motion creation

This is my stop motion video showing the ornaments come to life and to view and orchestrate a race.
